Tooth Abscess
A tooth abscess can be a painful puss filled infection caused by bacteria entering a damaged or decayed tooth. It can be a result of a cavity left untreated, gum disease, a cracked tooth or an injury. Common symptoms include intense toothache, swelling, sensitivity, bad breath and a high temperature. If untreated it can lead to complex issues affecting your teeth, jaw and other body parts.
Our dental team can provide effective relief for tooth abscesses. At your appointment we'll diagnose the problem, drain the infection, and offer treatments if necessary.
Our Treatment Process
Diagnosis - We use x-rays to locate and assess the abscess.
Drainage - Abscesses are carefully drained to relieve pain and clear the infection.
Treatment - A root canal may be performed to save the tooth if needed. Severe cases may require extraction.
Antibiotics - Medication is prescribed to fight the infection. You may require pain relief medication.
If you're having severe pain or swelling, we recommend booking a check-up at Curran Dental as soon as possible. Tooth abscesses won't heal on their own, so it's important to see a dentist to address the issue.
