Tooth Sensitivity
Tooth sensitivity is a common dental issue causing temporary pain in response to hot or cold temperatures, sweet or acidic foods or even from brushing. In most cases there is a short sudden pain in response to stimuli. If your sensitivity is accompanied by swelling, bleeding, or signs of infection, please speak with us as soon as possible.
Causes of Sensitivity
Enamel Wear - Hard brushing or use of hard-bristle toothbrushes.
Gum Recession - Due to gum disease or improper brushing techniques.
Tooth Decay - Cavities exposing sensitive areas
Cracked Teeth - Fractures exposing sensitive dentin.
Dental Procedures - Some treatments may lead to short term sensitivity.
Prevention and Treatment
Use desensitising toothpaste recommended by your dentist.
Limit Acidic and Sugar in your diet
Consider a night guard if there’s evidence of teeth grinding.
Dental bonds or sealants.
We encourage regular dental check-ups & cleans for preventive care. During teeth cleaning your dentist may apply fluoride to sensitive areas to strengthen tooth enamel and help reduce your symptoms.
